Tax relief on your College membership subscription
If you are a UK tax payer, your membership subscription for the Royal College of Pathologists is tax deductible. This means that you could save between 20% and 45% on your membership subscription through an online application to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), the UK’s tax authority. Better yet, you can also make a retrospective claim for the 4 previous tax years if you have not claimed this previously.
Full details can be found on the HMRC website. Unless you complete Self Assessment tax returns, the simplest way to claim your tax relief is to do so online. Please note:
- You cannot claim online for anyone but yourself
- Your total claim must be under £2,500. This is worth bearing in mind if you are claiming for a number of years and have membership with more than one HMRC-recognised professional association.
How to claim
In order to make a claim, you will need to provide HMRC with proof of receipt for each year of subscription purchase or renewal. To find your receipts, please log in to MyRCPath.
Once logged in, on the MyRCPath drop-down menu (located at the top of the webpage) you will find the Transaction History tab. This page will display any transactions you have had with the College over the last seven years. To request a receipt for a payment, click 'Email receipt' and a receipt will be sent to your College-registered email address.
